There are two ways to create categories in a WordPress website:
1. From the Posts > Categories page
- Go to your WordPress dashboard.
- Click on Posts > Categories.
- Click on the Add New Category button.
- Enter a name for your category in the Name field.
- (Optional) Enter a description for your category in the Description field.
- (Optional) Select a parent category for your category from the Parent Category dropdown menu.
- Click on the Add New Category button.
2. From the Post editor
- Go to your WordPress dashboard.
- Click on Posts > Add New.
- Enter a title and content for your post.
- In the Categories section, click on the Add New Category link.
- Enter a name for your category in the Name field.
- (Optional) Enter a description for your category in the Description field.
- (Optional) Select a parent category for your category from the Parent Category dropdown menu.
- Click on the Add New Category button.
Your new category will be created and you will be able to select it from the Categories section of the Post editor.
Here are some tips for creating effective categories:
- Give your categories meaningful names that accurately reflect the content they will contain.
- Use descriptive descriptions to help users understand what each category is about.
- Create a hierarchy of categories so that users can easily find the content they are looking for.
- Use categories to organize your content in a way that makes sense for your website.
- Update your categories regularly as you add new content to your website.
