WordPress automatically updates plugins and themes to the latest version. This is a good thing, as it helps to keep your website secure and up-to-date. However, there may be times when you want to disable automatic updates for plugins. For example, if you are using a plugin that is not compatible with the latest version of WordPress, or if you are testing a new plugin and want to make sure that it works properly before you update it.

There are a few ways to disable automatic updates for plugins in WordPress.

Method 1: Use the WordPress dashboard

  1. Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.
  2. Click on the Settings tab for the plugin that you want to disable automatic updates for.
  3. Uncheck the Enable automatic updates checkbox.
  4. Click on the Save Changes button.

Method 2: Use a plugin

There are a number of plugins that can be used to disable automatic updates for plugins. One popular option is the Easy Updates Manager plugin.

  1. Install and activate the Easy Updates Manager plugin.
  2. Go to Dashboard > Updates Options.
  3. Under the Automatic Updates section, uncheck the Enable automatic updates for plugins checkbox.
  4. Click on the Save Changes button.

Method 3: Edit the wp-config.php file

You can also disable automatic updates for plugins by editing the wp-config.php file.

  1. Open the wp-config.php file in a text editor.
  2. Find the following line:

Code snippet

define( 'AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED', false );

Use code with caution.

  1. Change the value of false to true.
  2. Save the file and upload it to your server.

Once you have disabled automatic updates for plugins, WordPress will no longer automatically update them. You will still be able to update plugins manually, by going to Plugins > Installed Plugins and clicking on the Update button for the plugin that you want to update.
